i looks like a “ghost bike” that Bike Snob NYC mentions frequently. the cast alloy wheels are expensive. yeah, that bike probably is USD 3,000 but at least it's not a fixie.
Beyond a grand or two, I feel bikes are no longer all purpose machines, buttargeted to something specific. For example, downhill-only, with big meatyframes and tons of travel in the suspension, or cross-country only, withlower, narrower handlebars, light non-suspension or short-suspension frame,etc.I would have pictured drop bars and clipless pedals at least. Although hemight have just switched the pedals for commuting. For flattened bars I tendto expect a time-trial type setup.Still a nice one though, and if it suits him well, then it's all good.
